Asafo Fante Flag - Ghana (105.2)

A genuine Asafo (Fante) flag, handmade on the coast of Ghana and chosen for its bold, graphic presence. Among the Fante people, these appliqué banners — known as frankaa — were created for the asafo, the traditional warrior companies, each one stitched to carry a proverb, a boast or a warning to rival groups.

The design is built up by hand in layered, hand-cut cloth, giving it the slightly naive, story-book quality that has made Asafo flags so collectable as folk and textile art. No two are ever alike.

Hung flat or loosely draped, it brings colour, history and real conversation to a wall. A rare find from our curated collection.
