Carex pendula (Pendulous sedge)

Carex pendula, commonly known as pendulous sedge, is a tall, clump-forming perennial with long, arching green leaves and gracefully drooping stems that create a striking, pendulous effect. In summer, it produces inconspicuous brownish flower spikes that hang elegantly above the foliage, adding texture and movement rather than showy blooms.

This species is valuable for wetland biodiversity, offering shelter for small wildlife and stabilising damp soils and pond margins. Its dramatic, upright and arching habit makes it ideal for naturalistic planting, pond edges, and waterside gardens.
