The Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, or EVO II, is an iconic high-performance version of the W201 series, designed to dominate in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This model was born from a collaboration with British engineering firm Cosworth, who was enlisted to develop the high-revving four-cylinder engine that powered the earlier 190 E 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 models. The EVO II, introduced in 1990, featured an aggressively aerodynamic body kit and a powerful 2.5-litre engine capable of producing 232 bhp and 181 lb-ft. Limited to just 502 units, it became an instant legend due to its racing pedigree, extreme styling, and technical sophistication. Known for its adjustable suspension, wide fenders, and enormous rear wing, the EVO II was a legendary symbol of 1980s and 1990s motorsport, bridging road and track in a way few cars of the era managed.
