Equisetum robustum (Black barred horsetail)

Equisetum robustum, commonly known as giant horsetail, is a vigorous, clump-forming perennial with tall, thick, jointed green stems growing in dense upright clusters from shallow water or wet soils. It produces inconspicuous spore-bearing cones in early summer, adding subtle texture rather than showy blooms.

This species is valuable for wetland biodiversity and pond margin stabilisation, providing cover for small wildlife. Its upright, spreading habit and tolerance of consistently wet or waterlogged conditions make it ideal for pond edges, streamsides, and naturalistic water gardens.
