Gunnera magellanica (Devil's strawberry)

Gunnera magellanica 'Devil's Strawberry', commonly known as giant rhubarb, is a low-growing, creeping perennial with small, rounded, glossy green leaves that form a dense groundcover. In summer, it produces tiny, bright red berry-like fruits above the foliage, which add seasonal interest but are largely ornamental rather than showy flowers.

The berries provide food for birds, giving the plant ecological value, and its dense mat-forming habit helps suppress weeds and stabilise soil. Its creeping habit and bold foliage make it ideal for damp borders, pond edges, and shaded naturalistic plantings where low maintenance groundcover is desired.
