A hand-coiled terracotta pot from the Lozi people of the Upper Zambezi Valley in Zambia. Built up by hand using the traditional coiling method, then smoothed and burnished into a robust, voluminous form.
The shoulder carries an incised geometric band — a signature Lozi touch that gives both visual rhythm and a tactile grip. Its rich, variegated colouring comes from traditional open-pit firing, where flame and the minerals in the clay create a "fire-clouded" patina ranging from deep charcoal to warm ochre. Traditionally used to store and serve water or grains.
A genuine vintage piece, carefully preserved, with natural variations and subtle surface wear that make it one of a kind.
Size: approx. 28cm W × 32cm H. Opening diameter: 13cm.
