Model 008_Preston Bus Station – Miniature Concrete Model
Hand-cast in fine concrete. Shaped by memory.
Some buildings stay with you long after you’ve passed through them. Preston Bus Station does that. With its endless walls of curved of concrete fins it’s a building that turns something everyday into something unforgettable. Built in the late 1960s, it’s both monumental and familiar as well as one of Britain’s great public transport structures, Now recognised as one of the most iconic Brutalist landmarks.
I knew I wanted to make this model from the moment I first saw the building.
Capturing the repeating ribs and subtle curvature at a small scale took time. The form seems simple until you start working with it—then the details reveal themselves. It took patience to bring out the rhythm without losing the boldness.
The result is a sculptural fragment of a building made to move people—now still and solid in your hand.
Features
• Solid cast concrete, individually hand-poured
• 5cm high, 5.5 cm wide, 5cm deep (approx)
• Laser-etched cork base with building name

Made for those who remember waiting beneath its overhangs, drifting through its concourse, or defending it when it stood under threat.
This model captures that tension between motion and stillness. A piece of Preston’s urban landscape preserved. A reminder that public buildings, when done with vision, can become places of beauty and belonging.

Brief Overview:
Preston Bus Station is a landmark of British transport architecture. With parking decks above and bus bays below, its flowing, curved façade and exposed concrete structure made it a striking presence in the city. Once threatened with demolition, it was saved after a national campaign and is now restored and protected as an enduring symbol of civic ambition and design.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.
