Tonga Basket Collection — handwoven wall art from Zimbabwe

Each set in our Tonga Basket Collection is handwoven by Tonga (Bathonga) artisans in Zimbabwe and Southern Zambia. Worked from Ilala palm leaf — coiled from a woven square into an almost perfect circle — the baskets are coloured with natural tree-bark dyes and carry the fine ‘snake’s belly’ edging the weavers are known for. Traditionally used to winnow grain, today they make beautiful wall art, especially grouped together.

Handwoven and one of a kind, each basket varies slightly in size and tone — the mark of a genuine handmade piece. Hang them as a cluster for a textural gallery wall, or dot them around the home individually.
