An authentic Ndebele doll from South Africa, handcrafted with glass and plastic beads. The Ndebele, one of the smallest tribes in the region, are renowned for their vibrantly painted homes and equally colourful attire — and the intricate beadwork on these dolls reflects the detailed craftsmanship of traditional Ndebele women's clothing.

In Ndebele culture, courtship begins when a suitor places a doll outside a young woman's hut, signalling his intent to propose. When a woman is about to marry, she is given a doll to care for and names it; her first child is then named after the doll.
